The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–Another week, another time there’s no Best Buy flyer in my local paper.

–Best Buy’s Weekly Ad is available at THIS LINK.

–Target is also advertising a FREE $5 Target GiftCard if you buy BOTH Bohemian Rhapsody (the movie, any format) AND the soundtrack CD ($11.99).

–And a couple of catalog titles advertised at Target this week:  The Nutcracker of the Four Realms ($24.99 Blu) and Paw Patrol: Pawsome Collection ($24.99 DVD).  Also, Shimmer and Shine: Flight of the Zahracorns ($9.99 DVD).

  1. Thanks for the Round-Up

I’ll be getting Bohemian Rhapsody 4K (probably via Target and some gift cards I have from buying um paper products in mass quantities etc.)

    LaVerite through a Criterion sale

And the Popeyes when I can get them for less spinach 😉

    Nothing for me this week

Me either. But the next two weeks are going to be far busier in terms of new titles I want, so I'm happy to have a week "off" for now.

Thank you for your work as always, Mike! 🙂

  3. Robert Crawford

Target is having a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" sale this week. I was able to buy six titles including preorder of "Glass" on 4K/UHD. Not all preorders are including in the sale just a select few like "Glass" and "Aquaman".

Thanks Robert! I may need to get out and break the cabin fever for an hour or so today and see what they have. We got dumped with between 4 and 9 inches of snow on Friday/Saturday and another storm coming in tonight/tomorrow, so I may need to just go out and see what's going on in the world before the pups and I hunker down again.

Crap. I HAD that in the "Specials" text…but it seems to have disappeared.

    Thanks, Robert!

And for full disclosure…it's a "Buy Two, Get One Free" sale on "All games, movies and books and select video games.

Just in case you wanna do some mix and matching.

"Excludes new this week and pre-order movies and 3DS and select Nintendo Switch titles."

Target's site is a bit wonky on this here is the list of 4K HD-Blurays (shop wisely as Bohemian Rhapsody is excluded but somehow listed here…

This sale is multiple use as I just placed another order too.

2001: A Space Odyssey 4K is on it's way as well as Predator 4K (Original Recipe) and Die Hard 4K for $57.18 (I used a strategy of buying one expensive and one lower priced to get another lower priced for free) which brought 2001 to below $20 which was my um Target price 😉

  7. I normally pass on by the DVD section of the grid because I rarely ever buy DVDs anymore, but I noticed Shoplifters is on there.

I really enjoyed that movie in theaters and would highly recommend it to anybody who missed it theatrically as at least a rental. I wish there was a Blu-ray release of it.

I'm not sure how much replay value it has, so I'm not going to rush out and buy a copy right now, but it was a really great film.

Kore-Eda is one of the greats and this film should have been released in BD form. To your point, Jake, when my wife and I went to see the film, we met a couple who admitted to having seen the movie once before and coming back to it. That's how impressed they were by it. So maybe, yes, to some people it does have replay value.

So maybe, yes, to some people it does have replay value.

Yes, of course, personal taste is personal taste and some people will be more inclined to return to it than others. I loved it and would very much enjoy seeing it again. However, it's a very sad movie. I'm not sure I would want to watch it regularly enough to justify a purchase. I have bought some films in the past that are sad because I think they are great, and I want them in my collection because I consider them important films. Every once in a while I will pull one of them out, but more often than not they sit on the shelf and time and again I keep coming back to the ones that are more fun to watch. Shoplifters is a great film — there's no question about that — but for example, at the end of the month I'm going to buy Ralph Breaks the Internet. I know that I will ultimately play Ralph more frequently than I would play Shoplifters, because it's an easier and more fun watch. That's not a value judgment on Shoplifters, which I love and have recommended on multiple occasions both on this board and elsewhere. But in general, I notice as my collection gets bigger and more and more interesting titles become available, I'm tending to prioritize the ones I know I will watch a lot because they are fun. Which doesn't mean I wouldn't ever consider buying Shoplifters — but I know it wouldn't be one I'd watch over and over and over again for pure entertainment, because it's a really heavy film.

    YMMV.

Yeah. Often enough there is the occasional surprise that doesn't get an HD release.

It's where I found out about What They Had. I ordered the DVD as a blind buy and can't recommend it enough.

  11. Personally, I find my use of the RoundUp has changed over the years.

In terms of the consumer end of things, I mostly use it to find out what titles are new in any given week. While I MIGHT be interested to learn about an especially good deal, I get the sense that most release date titles are priced pretty evenly across the market. And, honestly, at my age now, it's more about convenience than it is saving a buck or two by running across town (a lot has changed for me over my 18 years of being on the forum).

But I still find a lot of interesting titles exclusive to the DVD section. Occasionally I'll even end up highlighting one of them as one of the week's 'featured" releases.

Shoplifters in HD is $13.99 on Prime Video and $14.99 on Vudu.
